MAY REMOVE BONES FROM OLD CEMETERY
IN SHORT WHILE OLD BURIAL GROUND WILL BE WALLED IN BY WAREHOUSES
Application will be made on Tuesday night to Council to lease that portion
of the old cemetery at the foot of Popular street for a manufacturing concern.
At the meeting of Council Tuesday night, the Mayor called attention to the
fact that since that portion of the city is now being built up with the
compress and manufacturing concerns, it might be well to consider with
more seriousness than ever before the advisability of the removal of the
bones from the old cemetery and placing them in Rose Hill, where they can
rest in peace.
In a short time the old burial ground will be walled in by warehouses and
other buildings. The day and night will be filled with noises, and it is
believed that the descendants of those buried there will gladly give
consent for the remains to be carried to a place of peace and quiet.
