- According to Thomas's Florida Confederate Pension Application File: Thomas J. Peavy enlisted July 1862 in Captain William D. Mitchell's Company; Thomas County, GA, and was wounded at Kennesaw Mountain where he lost a finger in his left hand; he lost his right arm and was disabled at Jonesboro, GA, in that action 29 September 1864, and as a result is shown as mustered out of the service at that time. This veteran was a Gadsden County, Florida resident at the time of his enlistment. ...[H]e died 29 December 1921 in Gadsden County, Florida. His widow, Sallie S. Peavy, was awarded a Confederate Widow's Pension...on the basis of her husband's military service with the CSA.
