  • Notes
    • - FindAGrave.com memorial #11235563 by D. Love states the first wife of James was Sallie M., and they had the following children: James Vardeman III, Mabell, Robert, Emma, Hugh, and Eulila. Census records I looked at show a Sallie M. Louis/Lewis with a son Hugh M. Sallie was listed as James' sister. Need to verify relationship, and if there indeed was a marriage before Marcia Wells. In James' obituary, the only children listed as survivors were Marcia's two (his stepchildren). Also, James is listed as single (as opposed to divorced or widowed) in every census prior to his together with Marcia in 1920.
