    • - Jim and Vissie are living with Carrington and Ryle families in Wilkinson County in 1850. By 1860, they are living with on the Turner lands in Hancock County. Jim is overseer for Wilson, the planter. [Steve Turner, fellow Researcher]

      - Jim was a member of Company B, 66th Regiment of Georgia, from Dekalb County. The roll for July-August 1864 states that he deserted. Georgia state pension records state he served in the Confederate Army until the end of the war. In a history book about Hancock County, a biography of a Martin Johnson says Johnson, as Sgt of Co I, 59th Reg, called the Turner Guards, was wounded at Deep Bottom, Virginia 16 August 1864. Jim Turner pulled him off the battlefield when he was shot. There is no evidence of Jim as a member of the Turner Guards. The Turner Guards were named for Colonel Thomas Mickleberry Turner, possibly Wilson's cousin. There is also evidence of a request for Jim to receive aide later in life as a disabled veteran. The document says he was shot in the hand at the Battle of Peach Tree Creek, near Atlanta. He was with his command when the Army surrendered at Greensboro, North Carolina.       - James and his wife "lived in Hancock County, near Buffalo Creek and old Darien Baptist Church, which was on the Washington - Hancock County Road or Indian Trail Road. The exact location of the home is not known, but a grandson related that on the place were rocks where the Indians ground corn near the creek. The turners were a farming family."
