    Notes:

    - According to the 1900 Washington County Census, Amanda and Littleton had at leaset 11 children. Only 9 were still living at the time of the census. Same for 1910. According to the 1920 Washington County, Georgia Federal Census, Amanda's parents were born in Georgia.

    - According to her death certificate, Mrs. Litt Peavy was "Taken late in evening. Sent for Dr. Hilton, but she was dead when he arrived at sundown. Heart Failure of long standing."

    Notes:

    - According to the 1860 Houston County, Georgia, Michael could not read or write at that time.

    - Michael moved from Houston to Washington County between 1860 - 6 May 1862 (when he was fighting in the Civil War). Stories of the family tell that Michael left Houston County because he knew about a murder and a rich landowner paid him to leave. [Photocopy, in my possession, of a page from Union Baptist Church in Washington County.]

    - During the Civil War, Michael fought with the Bartow Unit of the 54th Georgia Infantry, Company C (Confederate States of America). He claimed his residence as Emanuel County. He lost him arm in the Battle of Kennesaw. He said, "Hell, Fire, Damn!"

    - As of 06 May 1862, Michael was a private in his regiment. A transcript of a muster roll read, "...Wounded in right arm, necessitating amputation, at Kennesaw Mountain, Georgia. 27 June 1864." Was known as "One Arm Mike."

    - Washington County, Georgia Newspaper Clippings. Vol 3, 1881-1889:
    Thursday, 12 August 1886:
    "Washington County's Maimed Confederates -
    A pamphlet recently published by the Executive Department in Atlanta, detailing names of maimed Confederates entitled to bounty, and regulations directing its disbursement had been kindly handed us by Judge Newman. From it we publish the following list of Confederate veterans in Washington County entitled to bounties:

    PERSONALLY appears Michael Peavy of Washington county, State of Georgia, who, being duly sworn, says on oath that he is a bona fide citizen and resident of said State, and has been such continually since his birth; that he enlisted in the military service of the Confederate States during the war between the States, and served as a Private in Company C, of 54 th Regiment of Georgia Volunteers [Mercer?] 's Brigade; that whilst engaged in such military service, at the battle of Kennesaw Mountain in the State of Georgia , on the 11 day of June 1864 , he was wounded as follows: By a minnie ball in the right arm necessitating its amputation above the elbow.

    Deponent desires to participate in the benefits of the Act, approved October 24, 1887, and the acts amendatory thereof, and makes application for the allowance to which he is entitled for the year ending October 26, 1890. I have heretofore been allowed a pension of one hundred dollars...} [signed] Mike Peavy ["his X mark" included]
