The Turner Guards were named for Colonel Thomas Mickleberry Turner, possibly Wilson's cousin. There is also evidence of a request for Jim to receive aide later in life as a disabled veteran. - In 1860, Williamson was one of the largest slave owners in Houston County, Georgia with 81.

    - Williamson invested in the Southwestern Railroad, that ran from Columbus to Ft. Valley, Georgia. His original stock made him wealthy, and the railroad helped save the lives of his son (Seaborn) and grandson (Robert Braswell) when they were trying to get home on furlough after surrendering at the siege of Vicksburg, Mississippi in the summer of 1863. - "The Mims Place, as locals called it, contained fifteen hundred acres of corn and cotton fields, fruit orchards, pecan trees, pastureland, and dense woods bisected by meandering Mossy Creek. Williamson Mims had built an assortment of mills along the creek bank. It took all eighty-five of his slaves to plant and harvest crops, subdue nature, and master the skills and crafts needed to run a successful plantation." Notes:

According to his widow's War of 1812 pension application, which was rejected, John was drafted into service on 1 October 1813 at Camden, Lancaster Dist., South Carolina. He was discharged on 15 March 1814 at Charleston, SC. Service records (viewed online at Fold3) show a John Kenington/Kennington served in McWillie's 2nd Regiment, South Carolina Militia. Was her application rejected due to a spelling error?

John married Nancy Watson on 16 Nov 1812 in Lancaster, South Carolina, USA. Nancy was born about 1796 in South Carolina, USA; died in 1886; was buried in Berlin, Colquitt, Georgia, USA. [Group Sheet]

    She shall wake on the
    resurrection morn.

A witness signature included on Nancy's (1873) War of 1812 widow's pension application was of a Thomas Canington. Online family trees suggest this was actually Thomas Canington Williams, son of Caroline Canington Williams. Caroline being a daughter of John and Nancy.

Listed near Nancy for the 1840 Wilkinson County, Georgia Federal census were Wm Cannington (age 20-30) and Britton Cannington (age 20-30). Some online family trees suggest these men were half-brothers of Nancy's husband John. Others suggest they were sons of John and Nancy (which was my first thought).
